Anchors Away!

I still have to sew on the neck to this red dress. I wanted to take a picture of it and post it while I was in the mood. I have to be in the mood to do these things.

I like the ruffle on this dress. Both dresses are refashions from old t-shirts. They will look better on the models that are intended to wear and play in them. Knits are so forgiving and really take on a nice shape with little bodies in them. Isn't it nice to have some clothes that aren't just pink and more pink?

Yes, Another Refashion

This was a tank top that I added a skirt to the bottom. I pleated it instead of the normal ruffle that I have been doing. I think the pleats go with the style of the garment.

I love the tank top but as a dress, it is even better! Thankfully, she likes it.

This was an old white shirt that I added cherry fabric to the bottom and refashioned it into a dress. This little girl likes the more traditional clothes. She likes a dress that twirls.

Don't you just want to hug her?!

Refashion, Recycle, Reuse

This was a super soft t-shirt that I added cute polka-dot fabric to and made a comfortable play dress. Nina doesn't like to wear dresses that much anymore except to church. However, if I make the dress comfortable, she says she will wear it. I made her several dresses and this is her favorite.

Refashion

This was a Ralph Lauren dress that I cut off the bottom because it was too small. Isn't it cute? The ruffle wasn't ironed down yet but I wanted to take her picture in it while I could. The girls don't really like to model.

Refashion

This shirt was my inspiration! I like the color and the lace decoration on the front. I knew that it was destined to be refashioned into a dress. I simply took the dress in at the shoulders and the sides and added a ruffle. I love the way it turned out. It is an original play dress. She can run around on the playground with the boys and still look cute.

She is quite the model too. She came up with those moves all by herself.

Why refashion?

Refashioning enables me to improve my sewing skills. The more that I practice the better I get. Unfortunately, it is really addictive. I can't wait to sew the next dress. I think about the color combinations and styles. Oh the fun! Oh the creativity!

Of course, there are many other reasons that I refashion:

1. economic -obviously

2. environmental

3. originality- everyone basically buys the same kids clothes from the same stores-no one will have these unique outfits (maybe pieces of the outfits- haha)

Refashion- Shirt to Dress

This shirt was a hand-me-down from a neighbor. It was too big for my girls but perfect to refashion into a dress. I have never refashioned anything before so this was my first attempt. I took the shirt in at the sides. Then I made a knit flower using a tutorial I found on another blog. The flowers actually cover a couple of small stains and they are made from knit shorts. I attached a band of hot pink knit fabric (from another old shirt) and finished it with an overedge stitch to make the lettuce-like hem. I used to fear knits. No, really. Knits-ahhh! But after being inspired by various blogs- especially ..http://www.dana-made-it.com/ , I ventured into the knit sewing arena. I enjoyed the learning process. I wasn't concerned about making mistakes because the knits were recycled. I am pleased with the results and have more ideas to refashion other clothes. Can you imagine the money that I will save and the original clothing I can create? The options are endless.
